EMERGING THEATRE MAKER OPPORTUNITY

EOI’s are now open for Bright Side’s inaugural Emerging Theatre Maker Opportunity, happening in January 2027!

In January 2027, we'll have a room full of passionate young creatives aged 8 - 16 ready to learn from practising industry professionals. Every year, we devise and create a brand new Australian musical or play with our young workshop participants, then present two low-key* performances to a supportive public audience. The successful applicant will work with these young creatives to produce a finalised concept of a brand new work, featuring kids, for kids. This is an opportunity to trial a new family-friendly script in a safe space, gain immediate audience feedback, and be supported by the Bright Side team who will handle all the paperwork. You just need to provide the working script, creative passion and leadership in the room. Founder of Bright Side creatives and award-winning writer and producer, Amy Fortnum will also mentor the successful applicant.

This is a paid opportunity for a local writer/director to join an exciting emerging not-for-profit on a mission to spread connection and laughter through the arts. We create work for kids, starring kids focusing on the most important things: collaboration, creative integrity, and a professional mindset.

The successful applicant will receive a set fee of $1,050 plus superannuation.

FILTER FUN PARK IN NSW

If you’re based in the Hunter Valley or Newcastle, you might have caught our educational kids show Filter Fun Park performing for local communities from September 14 - 17. The talented students and staff from five regional schools, including the The Hunter Valley School of Performing Arts, worked very hard throughout Term 3 to bring our musical to life!

Check out their photos - we’re so proud of everyone involved!

RECESS DUTY @ THE BLUE ROOM THEATRE

Recess Duty held its premiere season after undergoing development over the Summer. Plenty of teachers joined with giggles and groans as our actors depicted a comedic love-letter to the final term in a primary school. Written by Amy Fortnum, this hilarious comedy is one written from the heart and sold-out before it even opened. Subscribe to find out when the next season is!
